Most DVSA test routes in Liverpool pass through the docks corridor — long stretches of Dock Road, tight industrial side streets, and the approaches to the Queensway and Kingsway tunnels. Tunnel approaches catch out learners who aren't used to merging under time pressure: the lane you need is signposted well before the tunnel, and late lane changes are a common test fault.

Local tips

The Queensway and Kingsway tunnels are tolled via Merseyflow ANPR rather than manned booths, so there's no pay-at-the-booth routine — but tests rarely route through them. City-centre bus lanes and bus gates are heavily ANPR-enforced; check signage carefully before following a bus into a restricted street.
